A New World For Me…

All of us would like to believe each one of our “friends” on the social sites, pay attention to links and photos that we share. The reality is, the majority do not. Of course, family members and intimate “friends” stop in to see the new pictures of the baby, the reunion or shared night on the town. They view and leave comments over the new car we bought, the snow drift in our driveway, or our visit to the local pub. As someone recently wrote, “I want my Facebook experience to primarily be interacting with friends and family…”. Not being inundated with business ads.

THAT being said, more and more authors, musicians, jewelry makers, artists, mechanics and even pet sitters are on the social networking band wagon. Myself included. MY problem is, my interests are so varied and diversified. I have found myself “friending” scuba divers, race car drivers, other artists, outdoor enthusiasts, photographers, florists, Beatles fans, any and all Boys Town Alumni that I can find, over-the-road truckers and so on. I’ve also sent “Friend Requests” to individuals who simply looked interesting, lived in a part of the world I’ve enjoyed, or was involved in an occupation I wanted to learn more about.

I looked at my “Friends” list over the weekend and wondered; “What on earth do all of these people have in common?” After several days of mental madness, I smiled. The common denominator is ME! They all have ME in common!

And so, in this new world recently introduced, by a very dear friend of mine, I would like for my first official Blog Post (there have been several experimental posts prior to this) to be one of gratitude to everyone for either inviting me, or accepting my “Friend Request”. Whatever the reason. First and foremost of course, I would hope you “like” my art work. Promotion of said work was my primary reason for joining the social network scene. Perhaps down the line, I’ll simply Blog my profile in order to provide a better understanding of that. In the meantime, I also understand that it’s okay to not be liked by everyone! I don’t want to spend my time trying to make everyone like me because it is inevitably not going to work! Therefore I have more time to spend with those people that really do like me. AND, you don’t even have to like me personally, as long as you “like” some of my art. Come to think of it, you don’t even have to “like” my art, though your input is invited!

As I travel down this new highway, I simply wanted to express my appreciation to those who have been along for the ride, and to invite new passengers! My purpose of being here, of course is to promote my art, as well as share the passion of others I meet along the way.
